Claim procedure for the FSS plans

As customer of the foreign student and researcher plan, you have to follow carefully the procedures here under.

You have free choice of a practitioner or a specialist.

  • Go to the doctor or specialist (without calling Swisscare)
  • The doctor will send you a bill or if you pay cash, the receipt of payment and the bill
  • Pay the bill
  • Collect your bills up to the franchise amount
  • Fill out the claim form (download here) only once for all your bills
  • Send the original bills and claim form to Swisscare, address on the claim form



With prescription, you can go to every pharmacy

  • Go to the pharmacy (only with doctor prescription)
  • Pay your medicine and request the payment receipt
  • Collect your all bills (doctors, pharmacy...) up to the franchise amount
  • Fill out the claim form (download here) only once for all your bills
  • Send the original bills and claim form to Swisscare, address on the claim form



An ambulatory treatment in the hospital is considered as a doctor visit or specialist visit. The hospital can charge you in advance with a deposit. We recommend for non emergency cases, to go to a general practitioner or a specialist otherwise

  • Go to the hospital
  • If you paid in advance, request the deposit and bill detail
  • Collect all your bills (doctors, hospital, pharmacy) up to the annual franchise
  • Fill out the claim form (download here)
  • Send the original bills and claim form to Swisscare, address on the claim form



A stationary treatment is generally cause you have a serious illness or injury. A stationary treatment is a treatment that require a minimum stay in the hospital for a night.

  • Go the the hospital (attention, public and university hospital only)
  • Show them your insurance card 
  • You don't have to pay the hospital directly and also no deposit is required
  • The hospital send the bill directly to Swisscare



The maternity and pregnancy (delivery) claim procedure is very simple.

  • Collect all your bills monthly and send it to Swisscare
  • You don't have to pay your bills in advance
  • Only pharmacy medicine must be paid and claimed to Swisscare
  • No franchise is applied on the maternity
  • Send all your bills to Swisscare address on the claim form (download here)
  • Send us the claim form once per month with the collected bills
