Claim : difference between ambulatory treatment | stationary treatment

Ambulatory treatments (Out-Patient)

Outpatient surgery, also known as ambulatory surgery, same-day surgery or day surgery, is surgery that does not require an overnight hospital stay.

Stationary treatments (In-Patient)

Inpatient care is the care of patients whose condition requires admission to a hospital. Progress in modern medicine and the advent of comprehensive out-patient clinics ensure that patients are only admitted to a hospital when they are extremely ill, have had an accident or severe trauma.

EHIC (European health insurance card)

The European Health Insurance Card (or EHIC) allows anyone who is insured by or covered by a statutory social security scheme of the EEA countries and Switzerland to receive medical treatment in another member state for free or at a reduced cost, if that treatment becomes necessary during their visit (for example, due to illness or an accident), or if they have a chronic pre-existing condition which requires care such as kidney dialysis.

The intention of the scheme is to allow people to continue their stay in a country without having to return home for medical care; as such, it does not cover people who have visited a country for the purpose of obtaining medical care, nor does it cover care, such as many types of dental treatment, which can be delayed until the visitor returns home.

It only covers healthcare which is normally covered by a statutory health care system in the visited country, so it does not render travel insurance obsolete.

Thanks the EHIC, you dont need to apply a state insurance in Switzerland also the international student & researcher health insurance plan provided through Swisscare is not necessary.

The card was phased in from 1 June 2004 and throughout 2005, becoming the sole healthcare entitlement document on 1 January 2006. The card is applicable in all French dependencies (DOM) as they are part of the EEA, but not all other self-governing territories such as Jersey or Aruba which are not.

It replaced the following medical forms:

  • E110 - For international road hauliers
  • E111 - For tourists
  • E119 - For unemployed/job seekers
  • E128 - For students and workers in another member state.

Form E106 | Information

With the international private student health insurance plan provided through Swisscare, you are not entitled to send us this Form E106.

Swisscare cannot fill out this form E 106 as this is only possible if you are insured in a Swiss state insurance plan. Ask more information to the social security authorities in your home country.

fold faq

What is the duration of the contract

The duration of the contract is always until 31 December every year. The date of renewal is 01 January. Dont confuse the payment rate of 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. The payment rate is not the duration of the contract.

fold faq

What are the different cancellation possibilites

If you leave Switzerland

Send us a cancellation letter and a departure confirmation from your Municipality / Community. You can scan this both documents and send us by email.

If you are no more student or researcher

Send us a cancellation letter and a copy of the contract that you have with the new employer or certificate from university informing your departure.

Means that you have to send a cancellation letter 3 months before the annual renewal of the insurance.
