International student health insurance Italy
At arrival in Italy, all foreign students must present the authorities that they have a health insurance in order to obtain a residence permit. Regarding your nationality, you have specific procedure :
- For EU citizens: you must provide your European Health Insurnace Card;
- For students from outside the EU: you must take out private health insurance (SWISSCARE Italy Plan) to cover your entire stay in Italy;
Are you eligible for the Swisscare health insurance plan ? All people coming from countries outside of the EU/EEA, can take out a private plan. SWISSCARE Italy insurance plan provide a special health package in accordance with the requirements in Italy. This plan is also valid for all people who cannot take the Italian national health insurance scheme.Registration in the Italian national healthcare system.
In Italy, the National Health Service is called ASL. You can contact them in order to request to entering in the Italian healthcare system.
The validity of the national healthcare system is 12 months (calendar year) and only in connexion with the residence permit. The costs is average € 150 for a year and the payment can be made on the local post office using a Form F4.

- Documents proving the current residence (lease contract, etc.)
- Tax Code
Foreign students must sign a own-certification stating that they currently live and residen in Italy and that they dont benefit of a double insurance coverage i.e. with another private insurance company.

Contract deductible
In case of needs, if you are ill or have an accident, you will be refunded within 30 days. The contract excess is EUR 100.
